Space2 at 20
Space2 are celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2023. Over the past year Space2 have been developing an archive that tells the story of Space2’s journey of change and growth (from school broom cupboard to a purpose-specific renovated building of its own), celebrating its co-production approach with community members and highlighting its contribution to participatory arts practice.
For this project, Space2 have partnered with West Yorkshire Archives, where the Space2 archive will be held and opened to the public. People will be able to visit and look through our extensive list of past community arts projects.
A heritage group are co-curating an exhibition of highlights from the archive which will tour local venues in Spring 2023. The group will also work with One to One Development Trust to co-design the digital exhibition of Space2’s timeline.
Supported through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), Space2 are collecting 20 oral histories from; company founders, other participants/volunteers/staff past and present. Working with local poet Peter Spafford who will write a selection of Portrait Poems of participants through the years
