Space @ Bracken Edge was launched in July 2003 after receiving funding from ‘Space for Sports and Arts,’ a government organisation that distributed Lottery funding. The funding enabled three schools in Leeds to create purpose built spaces for sports and arts. Bracken Edge Primary School created a co-designed space with pupils featuring art class rooms, a library, studio space for two local artists and a small office, a semi-strung floor was also installed in the school hall.
The launch event featured a carnival themed on hearts, fruits and flowers to celebrate opening the venue. The Space was run by Emma Tregidden and Dawn Fuller and later become Space2.
